Balatro Calculator Examples: Different Hands and Joker Combos

Three worked examples below, using the same order of operations the Balatro calculator runs: base hand values, then card chips, then flat bonuses, then xMult last. For term definitions, see the Balatro scoring glossary.

Example 1 — Full House With a Flat Chips Joker and an xMult Joker

Full House (base 40 Chips, 4 Mult) — K, K, K, 8, 8, plus a +20 Chips joker and an x2 Mult joker

Card chips = (10×3 Kings) + (8×2 Eights) = 30 + 16 = 46
Chips = 40 base + 46 cards + 20 flat joker = 106
Mult  = 4 base × 2 xMult = 8
Score = 106 × 8 = 848

Example 2 — A Leveled Straight (No Jokers)

Straight leveled to Level 3 via Saturn (2 levels above Level 1) — 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Leveled base Chips = 30 + (30 × 2) = 90
Leveled base Mult  = 4 + (3 × 2)  = 10
Card chips = 5+6+7+8+9 = 35
Chips = 90 + 35 = 125
Mult = 10 (no joker bonuses this hand)
Score = 125 × 10 = 1,250

See understanding Balatro hand leveling with Planet cards for how the leveled base values here were calculated.

Example 3 — Two Pair With Stacked xMult Jokers

Two Pair (base 20 Chips, 2 Mult) — J, J, 5, 5, plus a +3 Mult joker, an x1.5 Mult joker, and an x2 Mult joker

Card chips = (10×2 Jacks) + (5×2 Fives) = 20 + 10 = 30
Chips = 20 base + 30 cards = 50
Mult  = (2 base + 3 flat) × 1.5 × 2 = 5 × 3 = 15
Score = 50 × 15 = 750

Notice the two xMult jokers combine multiplicatively with each other (1.5 × 2 = 3), not additively — swapping either xMult joker for an equivalent flat +Mult bonus would produce a meaningfully lower score. See common Balatro scoring mistakes for more on why additive and multiplicative bonuses aren’t interchangeable.

What These Examples Show

Example 1 shows a mid-tier hand boosted mainly through flat bonuses; Example 2 shows how much a leveled hand alone can score with zero jokers active; Example 3 shows stacked xMult compounding on a lower-base hand. All three use the same underlying formula — only the inputs change.
