Drapery Yardage by Window Size: Quick Reference Tables

Updated: May 27, 2026

How to Use These Tables

All tables below assume:

  • Fabric: 54” (137 cm) bolt width
  • Panels: 2 per window (standard pair)
  • Pattern repeat: none (solid or texture)
  • Returns: 3” each side (pinch pleat styles only)
  • Allowances: 4” top heading, 8” bottom hem

For patterned fabric: add 10–30% depending on repeat length. For lining: add approximately 90% of face fabric yardage. For a quick custom calculation, use the Drapery Yardage Calculator.

Pinch Pleat (2.5×) — Most Common US Residential

54” fabric, 2 panels, 3” returns each side:

Track WidthDrop 84”Drop 96”Drop 108”Drop 120”
72”10.5 yd12.0 yd13.5 yd15.0 yd
96”14.0 yd16.0 yd18.0 yd20.0 yd
120”17.5 yd20.0 yd22.5 yd25.0 yd
144”21.0 yd24.0 yd27.0 yd30.0 yd
168”24.5 yd28.0 yd31.5 yd35.0 yd

Bold = most common living/dining room window.

Ripplefold (1.8×) — Contemporary / Commercial

54” fabric, 2 panels, no returns (ripplefold track terminates at brackets):

Track WidthDrop 84”Drop 96”Drop 108”Drop 120”
72”7.1 yd8.1 yd9.1 yd10.1 yd
96”9.4 yd10.8 yd12.1 yd13.5 yd
120”11.8 yd13.5 yd15.2 yd16.8 yd
144”14.1 yd16.2 yd18.2 yd20.2 yd
168”16.5 yd18.8 yd21.2 yd23.5 yd

Ripplefold saves approximately 30–35% fabric vs pinch pleat on every window size — see Pinch Pleat vs Ripplefold Drapery for a full comparison of hardware, cost, and stack back.

Flat / Rod Pocket (1.5×) — Casual / Decorative

54” fabric, 2 panels, no buckram returns:

Track WidthDrop 84”Drop 96”Drop 108”Drop 120”
72”6.7 yd7.6 yd8.6 yd9.5 yd
96”8.9 yd10.2 yd11.4 yd12.7 yd
120”11.1 yd12.7 yd14.3 yd15.9 yd
144”13.3 yd15.2 yd17.1 yd19.0 yd
168”15.6 yd17.8 yd20.0 yd22.2 yd

French Pleat (2.5×)

French pleat uses identical fullness and returns to standard pinch pleat — yardage is the same as the Pinch Pleat (2.5×) table above.

Box Pleat (3.0×) — Formal / Valances

54” fabric, 2 panels, 3” returns:

Track WidthDrop 84”Drop 96”Drop 108”Drop 120”
72”12.0 yd13.7 yd15.5 yd17.2 yd
96”16.0 yd18.3 yd20.6 yd22.9 yd
120”20.0 yd22.9 yd25.8 yd28.6 yd
144”24.0 yd27.4 yd30.9 yd34.3 yd

Pattern Repeat Adder

Add this to any table value above when using patterned fabric:

Pattern RepeatExtra Yards (2 panels, 96” track)
9”+0.5 yd
12”+0.7 yd
18”+1.0 yd
24”+1.5 yd
27”+1.7 yd
36”+2.0 yd

These are approximate. Actual waste depends on exact drop. The Drapery Yardage Calculator computes exact pattern waste for your measurements.

Lining Yardage (Add to Face Fabric)

Lining cut length = drop + 4” (hem only — no heading bulk):

Track WidthDrop 84”Drop 96”Drop 108”Drop 120”
72”8.0 yd9.0 yd10.0 yd11.0 yd
96”10.7 yd12.0 yd13.3 yd14.7 yd
120”13.3 yd15.0 yd16.7 yd18.3 yd
144”16.0 yd18.0 yd20.0 yd22.0 yd

Lining table assumes same widths as pinch pleat face fabric above.

Always Add a Safety Margin

Order 10% more than your calculated total before placing a fabric order. Dye lots change between runs — re-ordering later risks a shade mismatch that is visible when panels hang side by side.

For patterned fabric: add 15% margin (cutting errors on repeats are more costly to recover from). See How to Calculate Drapery Yardage for the full step-by-step pattern repeat formula.

Use the Drapery Yardage Calculator for any measurement not in these tables — exact drop, non-standard track width, and precise pattern repeat.
