Roman Blind Fabric Yardage by Window Size: Quick Reference Tables

Updated: May 27, 2026

How to Use These Tables

All yardages are for 137 cm (54”) fabric, one blind per window.

Assumptions:

  • Fold depth: 12 cm (4.7”)
  • Fold spacing: 25 cm (10”) target
  • Top allowance: 5 cm (2”)
  • Bottom hem: 10 cm (4”)
  • Side hem: 2.5 cm (1”) each side
  • Inside recess mount (finished width = window width − 2 cm)
  • No pattern repeat

For your exact measurements, use the Roman Blind Calculator.

Note: Fabric yardage for a flat roman blind does not vary by width (for blinds under 137 cm finished width — one fabric width covers all). Width only affects fabric if the cut width exceeds the bolt width.

Cascade Roman Blind — Fabric in Metres

Cascade requires more fabric per fold (3× instead of 2×) — see How to Calculate Cascade Roman Blind Fabric for the full cascade formula:

When Blind Width Exceeds Fabric Width

If the finished blind width + side hems > fabric bolt width (137 cm), you will need to join fabric widths.

Cut width exceeds fabric width when:

  • Inside recess: window width > approximately 132 cm (finished + hems ≈ 133.5 cm)
  • Outside mount: window width > approximately 124 cm (finished adds 10 cm + hems)

For wide blinds, you need to join two fabric widths. Add the full cut length a second time.

Finished WidthWidths NeededExample Fabric (2.31 m cut)
Under 130 cm1 width2.31 m
130–260 cm2 widths4.62 m
260–390 cm3 widths6.93 m

For very wide blinds, consider two separate roman blinds side-by-side rather than one joined blind.

Add for Lining

Lining cut length = drop + fold allowance + 2 cm (approximately 98% of face fabric cut length).

Practical rule: add 0.85× face fabric yardage to get total lining yardage. For lining types and attachment methods, see the Roman Blind Lining Guide.

Face FabricLining (approx)
1.77 m1.5 m
2.31 m2.0 m
2.79 m2.4 m
3.09 m2.7 m

Add for Pattern Repeat

If the fabric has a pattern repeat, add extra fabric:

Extra per blind = 1 pattern repeat length

This ensures you can cut the blind starting at the same point in the repeat regardless of where your cut falls on the bolt.

Repeat LengthExtra to Add
10 cm (4”)+0.10 m (+0.11 yd)
15 cm (6”)+0.15 m (+0.17 yd)
25 cm (10”)+0.25 m (+0.28 yd)
35 cm (14”)+0.35 m (+0.38 yd)

Bold = most common pattern repeat for standard furnishing fabric.

Safety Margin

Always add 10% to the calculated fabric amount before ordering:

  • Allows for cutting errors
  • Accounts for any shrinkage (pre-wash linen before cutting)
  • Provides small offcuts for making ties, loops, or replacement pieces

Round up to the nearest 0.25 m (¼ yard) when ordering.
