Mistake 2 — Confusing Points-Based With Percentage-Based Categories

These are not interchangeable. In a points-based course, a 150-point final out of 500 total points is implicitly worth 30% — but if the syllabus separately states the final is 35% weighted, the instructor may be using category averaging instead of a straight points total.
