How to Sell on Grailed: Listings, Photos & Measurements

Grailed is the leading peer-to-peer marketplace for menswear, streetwear, and high-fashion. Buyers are knowledgeable and expect detailed listings — vague descriptions and poor photos result in low offers or no sales. This guide covers every step from account setup to your first payout. Use the Grailed fee calculator to set prices that hit your target profit after fees.

Step 1: Account Setup

  1. Create an account at grailed.com with a verified email
  2. Complete your profile — a profile photo and short bio increase buyer trust
  3. Link your payment method in Settings → Payments (bank account or PayPal via Stripe)
  4. Verify your identity if prompted (required for payouts above certain thresholds)

A complete profile with history is essential. New accounts with zero feedback get fewer offers — build reputation by being responsive and shipping fast on early sales.

Step 2: Photography

Grailed buyers judge quality by photos first. Standard expectations:

Flat lay photos on a clean surface:

  • White, black, or neutral background (floor or table)
  • Natural light from a window — avoid yellow overhead lighting
  • Item laid flat, fully unfolded
  • No clutter, no other items in frame

Required shots for most items:

  1. Front flat lay — full item
  2. Back flat lay — full item
  3. Brand label / size tag (close-up)
  4. Condition details — any flaws, fading, cracking, pilling
  5. Measurements reference (tape measure in frame if possible)

For sneakers: Add sole shots, box label, insole, and any yellowing or creasing close-ups.

Poor photos are the #1 reason Grailed items don’t sell. Buyers will not ask for photos — they’ll scroll past.

Step 3: Measurements (Critical)

Grailed buyers shop by measurements, not tags. A “Large” in one brand is a “Small” in another. Every listing must include flat measurements taken while the item lies on a hard surface.

Standard measurements by item type:

Tops (shirt, hoodie, jacket):

  • Chest (pit to pit, measured across)
  • Length (collar seam to hem)
  • Shoulder (seam to seam)
  • Sleeve length (shoulder seam to cuff)

Bottoms (trousers, shorts):

  • Waist (across waistband × 2)
  • Inseam
  • Thigh (across at crotch × 2)
  • Rise (front: waistband to crotch)
  • Leg opening (across × 2)

Outerwear (coats, jackets):

  • All top measurements plus across-back width

Include measurements in the listing body, not just photos. Many buyers filter/search by measurements.

Step 4: Writing the Listing

Title format: [Brand] [Item name] [Size] [Colourway/Season]

  • ✅ “Carhartt WIP Chase Hoodie Size L Black FW22”
  • ❌ “Cool hoodie large”

Description must include:

  • Brand and specific item name (not just “hoodie”)
  • Size tag + your flat measurements
  • Condition rating (NWT, NWOT, 9/10, 8/10, etc.)
  • Specific condition notes — fading, pilling, repairs, missing hardware
  • Original retail price (helps buyers understand value)
  • Whether tags are included
  • Smoking/pet-free home (matters to buyers)

Condition guide:

RatingMeaning
NWTNew with tags
NWOTNew without tags
9/10Worn once or twice, no visible wear
8/10Light wear, minimal flaws
7/10Moderate wear, visible but acceptable flaws
Below 7/10Must describe all flaws explicitly

Step 5: Pricing

Price using the Grailed fee calculator — enter your target net profit and it calculates the listing price that covers the 9% commission and processing fee.

Research comparables: Search Grailed for sold listings of the same item. Filter by “Sold” to see what the item actually sold for, not asking prices.

Build in negotiation buffer: Most buyers offer 10–20% below asking. If your target is $120, list at $135–$145.

Step 6: Shipping

Options:

  • Grailed-provided shipping labels (USPS, UPS, FedEx via Pirateship rates) — often cheaper than booking directly
  • Ship on your own and upload tracking manually

Packaging:

  • Poly mailers for soft items (shirts, pants) — cost ~$0.50–$1.00 each
  • Boxes for structured items (jackets, shoes) — recycled boxes are fine
  • Tissue paper and a thank-you note increase positive feedback and repeat buyers

Timeline: Ship within 48 hours of sale. Delays beyond 5 days can result in automatic order cancellation and affect your seller rating.

Step 7: After the Sale

  • Upload tracking immediately after shipping
  • Communicate proactively if there’s any delay
  • After delivery, funds release 3 calendar days later (see payout timeline)
  • Respond to buyer feedback if they leave a review
