The Forge Calculator for Maximizing Multiplier Builds

Since the combined multiplier in The Forge is a quantity-weighted average, the ratio of ores you use matters just as much as which ores you pick. Here’s how to think about maximizing it.

Step 1 — Know That Quantity Ratio Beats Ore Count

The combined multiplier formula is Σ(each ore’s multiplier × its quantity) ÷ total quantity — using a rarer, higher-multiplier ore only helps if you use enough of it relative to the total. A single high-multiplier ore diluted by a large quantity of a low-multiplier filler ore contributes far less than the same ore used at higher volume. Step 2 — Test Ratios Before Committing Rare Ore

Step 3 — Understand the Diminishing Effect of Adding More Ore Types

Every additional ore slot you fill adds more quantity to the total, which means each individual ore’s influence on the combined multiplier gets diluted unless it’s also contributing a large share of the total quantity. A 2-ore mix where one ore dominates the quantity behaves very differently from a 4-ore mix split evenly across all four — even if the same top ore is present in both.

The same 3x ore’s presence in the mix matters far less as its share of total quantity shrinks — the combined multiplier moves almost linearly with quantity ratio, not with which ores are simply “in” the forge.

Step 4 — Decide If You Need a Trait at All

If you don’t need a specific trait on the forged item, the highest-multiplier single ore used alone (100% of quantity) will always produce the best possible combined multiplier — any dilution with a lower-multiplier ore can only pull the average down, never up.
