Uma Musume Stamina Terms and Where the Numbers Come From
Before the definitions, the important distinction: some of these terms describe things the game tells you, and some describe numbers players worked out. Mixing them up is how a rough guideline gets treated as a rule.
What the game documents
- Distance categories — Sprint, Mile, Medium and Long, with their metre ranges
- Running styles — Front Runner, Pace Chaser, Late Surger and End Closer, and where each positions a runner in the pack
- Which skills restore stamina during a race
- Your character’s Stamina stat, shown on the status screen
These are facts you can read in game.
What the community inferred
- The baseline stamina figure for each distance
- The ~5% penalty applied to Front Runner and Pace Chaser
- The ~25% reduction credited to recovery skills
These come from aggregated player testing, not from published developer figures. Every number the Uma Musume stamina calculator outputs is built on them, which is why the results are planning guidance rather than predictions. Term by term
Baseline stamina requirement. The community-recommended minimum Stamina stat for a distance category, assuming roughly 1200 Speed, 1200 Power, 600 Wit, and a track with no downhill sections.

Those stat assumptions matter. A character well outside them is not described by these numbers.
Adjusted requirement. The baseline after the running-style multiplier:
Front Runner / Pace Chaser: baseline × 1.05
Late Surger / End Closer: baseline × 1.00
Margin. Your Stamina minus the adjusted requirement. Positive is headroom, negative is a shortfall. How to read the size of it is in reading your stamina result.
Recovery adjustment. Skills that restore stamina mid-race offset drain rather than requiring the full amount banked at the start. The calculator models this as a 25% reduction in the effective requirement.
Hitting the wall. Running out of usable energy before the finish, producing a sharp speed drop in the final stretch. The outcome the requirement exists to avoid.

Reading across a row shows something useful: the recovery column moves the number far more than the style column does. On Long, recovery takes 1,260 down to 945 while a style change only reaches 1,200. That comparison is worked through in stamina stat vs recovery skills.
What none of these terms cover
Track conditions. Downhill sections reduce drain; the baselines assume none.
Your other stats. The baselines assume a particular Speed/Power/Wit profile. Move away from it and the requirement moves too, in ways a single number cannot express.
Skill interactions. Beyond the flat recovery adjustment, the calculator does not model specific skills, their activation conditions, or how they combine.
Race-day variance. Two identical characters in the same race do not produce identical outcomes.
Treat the output as a check on whether stamina is roughly adequate for a distance — which is the question it can actually answer.
